Frito Lay has set the Guinness World Record for the most page “likes” in 24 hours. This is the first time that this specific record has been set and recorded. Frito Lay ran many promotions in multiple channels in order to set the record including constructing a “flavor kitchen” in New York City’s Times Square which had live demonstrations streaming on their Facebook page. They also partnered with Zynga’s Farmville to allow consumers to harvest in-game crops to earn virtual good and promote the record for the brand. Frito is now giving away coupons for free bags of chips to the first 24,000 fans who liked the page at the start of the record. This record is the latest in an increasingly popular trend of Facebook centered Guinness records. Recently, Oreo, Lil Wayne, and Charlie Sheen have received publicity for their attempts to set Guinness World Records via social media sites, namely Facebook and Twitter.
